Default Primary 97 Road King

So I changed out my primary oil and replaced with HD Syn 3 - 1qrt and adjusted primary chain to spec. I went for a ride with the wife yesterday with no problems. Then today I could here some noise from the primary?? Would this be due to the chain being to tight or to loose or to much oil?? Thanks in advance!!

So EVOFloyd are you saying that using Syn has caused that noise? When you say to use the same oil it came with are you saying the Tranny oil that it came with off the line from Milwaukee?? Please elaborate a little more!

syn may give you a little more chatter. How does it pull? I'd recheck the primary chain. I'd error a little loose than tight, but that's just me.

Thanks Lang that's what I'll be doing for sure. I definitely set it a little over 5/8 so to be more on the loose side than tight. As for oil I read a lot of good on HD Syn 3 for the primary and didn't realize that Syn would cause some chatter! Lang what do you use? As for pulling she's strong as ever with no jerkiness or lagging!

Use H-D primary oil or 75-90 Hypoid gear oil.

I use ATF in my primary on my 94 TourGlide. Even used it in my 07 Flhtc

Did you rotate and find the tight spot when adjusting the chain?
I think 5/8" is on the tight end cold.

I normally will go middle of the road between 5/8 and 7/8 = 3/4 and never have a problem.
