Default tranny questions

i just got a 94 harley 5 speed from a fatboy for some work no big deal
my questions are
anyone know the gear ratios in this transmission?
and who made the gear set? is it a good gear set?

i debating on rebuilding it or buying a rev tech 6 speed?
the rev tech comes with 2:94 1st gear i believe and a 5 year warranty

i cannot afford a baker at least not yet! haha

i'm putting either one of these trans behind the new ss v111" i just bought
wondering if the gears in the harley tranny will deal with the ss torque?
any advice is welcome thanx guys

The stock transmission should handle the torque of the new motor without problem. They are very strong. I don't think they ever changed the ratios, so yours should be the same as mine, which are:

1: 3.24
2: 2.21
3: 1.60
4: 1.23
5: 1.0

Changing the other sprockets (compensator on the engine, transmission output sprocket, rear sprocket) is usually how people change the gearing.

I really don't know how changing the actual gear ratio will suite your bike. The easy way, as I said, is to change one or more of the other sprockets. You're making a large change in the torque of the motor. I would look to see what others running similar power found to work well. The low 1st gear of the stock motor is handy for slow riding, like in town. If you want the thing just optimized for a drag strip or something, then I could see going with a higher geared 1st.

Andrews' gears always had a reputation as being the best available. I don't think that's changed.

Just whatever is in the factory shop manual. I think it is pretty complete. I've done a 4 speed before, but not a 5. Haven't had to (knock on wood).
