It is sold "As Is". Unless your own dealer will cover it. You will not be able to take it to a different dealer for warranty work.
I read somewhere on this forum that they are now warranty-ing self install motors.

That's what someone here said, but even if it's true (and I don't know-it's been 10 years since I had mine done), you will still have to work through a dealer. You can't just box up the motor and send it in yourself.
Okay, I'm the guy that did the work myself and here's the straight skinny on it:
Normally the reman program is set up so that you take your bike to the dealer, they remove your engine from your bike, crate it up and send it in to the MoCo. Then when it comes back in 2 weeks, they uncrate it, install it in your bike and you pay your money to pick up a finished bike.
The price on the website for the reman only covers the shipping and reman itself, not the labor or extra parts involved in the swap. This varies by dealer. Some will charge around 10-12 hour's of labor, some will try to charge you more and some will refuse to allow an Evo into their shop.
I wanted to take advantage of the reman program, but couldn't afford both the reman and the labor to remove and reinstall the engine. I called MoCo direct and asked if I could do it myself. They agreed.
If you are planning on going this route, you still need a friendly dealer that is willing to help you with the shipping part. I removed my engine and took it to the dealer. They packed it in the special(required) crate and sent it to the MoCo. When it was done, MoCo sent it back to the dealer who then uncrated it and called me to come pick up the engine. I went to the dealer, paid the website's advertised price plus local sales tax and brought my newly remanned engine home to install myself.
MoCo changed the warranty on the reman program because of me. Originally the warranty was 1 year, unlimited mileage on parts and labor if you have the dealer do all the work involved. If you do the labor yourself like I did, you still get a 1 year, unlimited mileage warranty, but only on parts, NOT labor.
So yes, you still need a dealer to box it up and send it in and you DO have a warranty of 1 year, unlimited mileage on PARTS only, NOT labor.
The cost of the shipping is included in the website's price, so don't let the dealer to try tell you otherwise. They aren't using FedEx or UPS; they are using their own trucks(the 18-wheelers with Harley logos all over them), so there isn't really any extra shipping cost involved.

trying to understand this....if you send in your 84 with the good shovel crank and non breather heads do you get the newer Evo 3 piece crank and breather heads back or do they rebuild it according to your model year ?
