Default spyke ignition question

Hey guys, I'm new to the site! I had a question on the spyke ignitions systems. I just bought a chopper with a s&s evo motor and it has a spyke dual fire ignition. I was wanting to know if any of you guys were running it or had it? Im wondering if they have a box or do they change the settings on the rotor inside? I'm getting a cough once in awhile when I let of the throttle an as soon as I start to give it gas that's when it will cough through the carb. Any help would be great thanks guys. Matt

Hi Matt, welcome to HDF from the UK. I think your cough is more likely to be something else, like the carb not being quite right. Hopefully our experts will call be very soon! You can get info on your ignition from Spyke's website, just google them and go to their Tech pages.

Coughing through a carb could be a sign of the ignition timing being too advanced. If you have a LED on your module - it's very easy to check w the engine not running - the light must disappear when the line on a flywheel (or double dots, depending on the year) is crossing the middle of the round window.
If you don't have the LED, you'd need a timing gun and preferably a screw-in timing lens for that very window, if you don't wanna be soaked in oil. Hook the light to the front cylinder.
If your timing turns out to be alright - it's a carburation problem. Check for air leaks around the manifold. If there are no leaks, your pilot jet is probably too small for the given pipes/cam (try to tune it with the mixture screw first, but make sure it's still withing the normal turns-out limits).

Thanks guys I appreciate all the help I can get. Its my first Harley. I do know the front is belt driven so that's one thing I don't have to worry about getting soaked in oil checking it.

No you will That round timing plug on the left opens up the access to the crankcase, so you will get soaked it the engine oil!
