Default Ultima Air Filters

I have been fitting K&N filters for years and can re-jet the bike in my sleep but there are heaps of really cheap Ultima filters available here in NZ and we started jetting them as per K&N but these bikes all used heaps of gas and had no mid-range power....so we put them back to stock jetting (for bikes outside the US which is 45, and 190....bikes run great again.

My thoughts on this is that Ultima filters are not as free-flowing as K&Ns and although they are a good filter I would say that fitting them is really all about maintenance (they are washable) rather than performace....if you want your bike to breathe deeper I would suggest you go with the K&N.......just my observations from the workshop.

I just dont get this whole thing about the difference between a regular paper throw away filter and a washable oiled cotton media filter .?
Seems to me Spanners that the big deal about K/N and the usual followers like Ultima are just trying to cash in to the usual and ongoing hype of " try this new thing for more power " etc.?
It reminds me of the big " spark plug or oil innovations " of the last 20 + years .
After all the hype , the big oil thing turned out to be the sudden availability of synthetic oil . The spark plug thing has eventually boiled down to aircraft spec. plugs that have been around forever but some marketing dude had a brainstorm to offer them on the auto./bike market .?!
Its called market progress , i guess ?

Well the K&N's do actually give an power increase because the cheapass H-D filter is garbage and does not flow well but the main reason I recommend them is because they are reusable and save heaps of $$$$s in the short term even....like one service and it pays for itself.
