Heres a video that maybe sheds some light on what needs to be done.

Ride safe,

That sounds highly technical.

This would hurt driveability, as it caused the slide to "hunt" for position.

I've used S&S carbs, Mikunis, Webers, CVs and even old SUs - and can say that the CV has been the most reliable, and once tuned (jets/needle), the most problem free of any of them.

Again, not discounting your experience - if what you have works for you, GREAT!
But - for lots of folks who already have a CV, and really only need a couple jets and the right needle, spending $3-600 for a replacement carb isn't smart money.

No I am not the original owner but PO did nothing to the carb.

When I l got Tina she used to sputter for the first mile or 2. I took her to a local indy and had him go through the carb and still had the same problem.

A friend of mine recommended the S&S E and another friend owed me money so I got the carb for free but the difference between the 2 was dramatic for me.

I have about 30k miles with the S&S and haven't had one problem with it.

I will grant you the possibility that no one new how to set up the previous carb for best results. All I can tell you is my experience.

I have to agree with you that 5-600 is a bit pricey especially if you can redo the CV for a lot less.

Either way - it sounds like you got what *you* needed outta the machine, and that's what counts. Lotsa ways to get from here to there - and as long as they work, they're all OK.

I started replacing Harley carbs with S&S years ago, long before the CV carb was introduced. Replaced the AMF Keihin on my Shovel and the Keihin on my EVO with the Super E. Compared to the stock carb the S&S was excellent. All I needed for a complete teardown was a flat blade screwdriver and once jetted to the build they performed flawlessly. I do know alot of people like the Mikuni CV's and I have helped some buddies on theirs but....I still like the ease of install, reliability, and performance I got from those Super E's
