Dim Odometer Help
The odometer /tripmeter display on my 1997 flstc is very dim or non-existant . It does work, when you can see it . The speedo works fine , just a pain not having a fuel gauge or tripmeter for mileage . What year speedos will fit if I change it out or can it be repaired . Thanks for any help.
I have the same problem with mine and I suspect it is a bad ground.
The manual says it is non repairable but some one here says they are.
I haven't messed with mine yet but I would suggest before you spend any money check your ground coming off the speedo and use dielectric grease.
If it works you have just saved yourself some money.

Back when I was converting my Ultra to the electronic speedometer....I got to become pretty familiar with the speedometers.
On your 1997....you can install a 1995-2003 speedometer. If you want to install a 2000-2003, you will need a retrofit kit. However, I helped a friend wire in a 2002 speedometer into a 1998 Fatboy....only with a little soldering plus the connector and a wiring diagram of both models.
The 1995-1999 electronic speedometers were pretty weak. They also liked to bleed and were dim. They were greatly improved in 2000.
