Default Reinstalling cylinders

Finally got my cylinders and heads back from the machine shop and ready to get her back together.

How did I manage to get them out so easy with the pistons still in the cylinders? Now that I've repainted them, I guess I'm being real careful. The rocker boxes were a bear to get off with the engine in the frame, but the cylinders were easier, I thought.

Any ideas?

easy, you didnt have new rings to fight.

I just reinstalled my jugs/heads last night. The guy who did the bore/hone didnt re-chamfer the base of the cylinder. It took me and my buddy like an hour and a half to get the cylinders back on.

you'll get them on there... i've had mine off my '91 about twice in the last year

there is a very specific way... granted, it can be a riddle... but it's there, you'll find it

Default you need an extra set of hands and blunt screw drivers

If you do not have the ring collapser? and you can not make one with a detachable oil filter tool, then and extra set of hands and blunt screw drivers can do the job. Take your time and make sure your piston are opposite TDC for each installation of each jug. Just be patient.

Buy a big hose clamp, the type that have a bolt to close them, not the spiral drive ones....its all I use.

An old trick my dad taught me was to use heavy fishing line to compress the rings one at a time.

I've always just pinched the rings with my fingers, even on my Voyager XIII, all 6 cylinders, all by my lonesome. I tried ring compressors, they just got in the way. I've had the cylinders off my evo 4 or 5 times, just using my fingers. The new rings are difficult, but I managed.

I've git the pistons in the cylinder with just enough to slip the wrist pin, can't seem to finagle the cylinders in place.

Make sure they are oriented the same as when you removed them. Sounds like a dowel pin is blocking final placement.????

i took my pistons off then installed them in the cylinders, then slid the cylinders down the head bolts, they will pretty much stay where you want them to stay, then lined up the rod in the piston and slid the pin in, slid them rest of the way down. ive seen them do 6 cylinder porsches.
