Default FLHTC wheel question

I like the looks of the early Fatboy solid wheels...is there a way to adapt an early set of EVO Fatboy Wheels to my 1987 Electra Glide.? Thanks in advance / Mark

Well, I don't know all the aspects of using a Fatboy wheel on your FL, but I do know that Fatboy wheels were all single disk and don't believe they had the holes to accept a right side rotor. I'm guessing if the axle size and the rotor offset is the same on the wheel you are looking at, it would bolt up, but not as a dual disc set-up.

Thanks for your input. If I just had a set of those wheels examine and investigate before I purchased!

In addition, I am not sure the softails used the same rear rotor as touring bikes. If not, the rear wheel won't work either!

Having a hard time finding any wheels for a 87 FLHTC...I wonder if other later years of an FLH would be applicable?

Up to '92 should go straight in I believe, possibly up to 1999, although the speedo drive was moved to the trans from the front wheel. From 2000 on the wheels were changed from tapered rollers to ball races and the hubs were changed. They have a larger diameter hole in the centre of the rotors and rear pulley, also the big ole rear rotor we have was dropped for a similar style to the front.

Softail wheels used tapered roller bearings through the `99 model year, then they went to the sealed bearings.

The axle sizes on the Softails did not change at the same time as the other models did.

Front axles were 3/4 inch through 2006 (2007 and later are 25mm).

Rear axles were 3/4 inch through 2007 (2008 and later are 25mm).

Softails never had the 1" axles.

With the possibility of up to 1999 opens the door for more wheel options. If Ido locate a later year wheel can i also use the later year rotor or still use my 87 rotor?

I had to replace the rear pulley on my old Heritage and it seemed that the Softails and FLH models were different in every way. I would probably go to the dealership and ask a mechanic there before I spent any money.

My search will continue for a set of reasonable priced wheels, since the Fatboy option is off the table it's back to Craigslist and Ebay.
