I have a 95 FSLTN with 20k, carb, screamin eagle exhaust, and stock ignition. I bought it this winter and took it out this weekend as the roads finally dried out. LOVE IT! However, every once in a while it misses. It happens when cruising at lower RPMs and it will just do it once, then a few minutes later-once again. Then it will go 10 minutes running fine. I changed the plugs but no effect. I've read many threads and looks like maybe it could be an air leak, wrong jet, needs sea foam, ignition wires, card rebuild, or just deal with it. Looks like it may be a common issue. Any advice?
Nice looking ride Gunny and only 20k still in breaking period.
Start with the simple stuff if the bike sat with the gas for a while change the fuel. Check electrical connections, my motor was missing at lower rpm before ended up being the +bat. Cable had broken under the shrink and would break contact at lower rpm due to vibration found it while testing the charge.
Cheers
I'll change the gas and run some sea foam through it. The loose connection seems like it could be it the way it's acting, especially since its at a lower RPM that gives a certain vibration.
I got the 94 flstn. also try the intake gasket, you know how to do it spray a some carb cleaner around the intake with the bike running and see what she does...
Welcome Gunny68 .
If you can , check coil with a multimeter to HD specs. or...
Snag one of the ole ladys spray bottles and fill it with water , start bike and let it warm up to op.temp , while in a dark place spray the coil and plug wires with water and then look for arcing . Replace anything that shows arcing.
Also, check the connections of the plug wires at the coil towers. It's not unheard of for them to come loose from the coil inside the boot and break the circuit. Don't ask me how I know this.
I have the same bike, with 16k and have the same issue occasionally. Mine only seems to do it if its colder out and she hasn't warmed up all the way.
I think you may be right. It's still in the 30s and I just took a couple short rides since I bought the bike this winter. I took it out for 44 minutes this weekend and it stopped missing after about 15 minutes.
