85 is a push and hold. As stated you can buy a module that will keep them on till you press again and release or you could add a relay that would stay on until you press again. I only find it a problem when I have a smoke and coffe going at the same time

Just checked my Parts Catalog and it was introduced in 1987, although the part number is shown as -89.

Not sure about any other yr, or anyother bike for that matter (seeing how we are talking about machinery 26-27 yr old!) but my 86 flht is push on, push off. It has a build date of 10/85 so not sure when they changed.
