Default Bad Switch?

Well, thought I had figured out my miss on the bike a while ago but apparently not. Sometimes, well near all time now, when taking off, bike seems to be missing, not backfiring, but not getting good fire or fuel to cylinders then all sudden it will clear and gain 500 rpms and go. I rebuilt carb, changed filter screen new petcock, new fuel line. I pulled tank checked wires to coil one had been pinched, fixed that . Also changed main relay/fuse under seat and the one on the oil tank. Seemed to run fine for a while. Well pulled it out today to go for ride, back to blubbering if that is a word u can understand. I had ignition switch at center, when going down drive way, switched it to lights and it fell on its face. It will now do that fallin on face, if i am sitting still idling up engine and switch it. Do I need to go on a dinosaur hunt for this elusive switch that is made of unobtanium? Or can I pull it and clean it. Its no small job on this bike.

It could be a regulator or battery issue that manifests when the extra load for the lights is applied. Switches can be dismantled and cleaned out if you are into fiddly work.

Default Bad Switch?

Well, Ive checked voltage while its running today, Yesterday now, 13.4 while running. Put new battery in it when the problem first showed itself back in october on way down to daytona for biketoberfest. those made no difference. I put new relay that is on the oil tank on it, it straightend up for a while. Now bak to same today. Think im going to first recheck wiring going to it and away from it before doing anything more drastic.

i had something similar with my 85. it just didn't want to run right. i changed every part of the ignition system.....i thought. looking at the wiring diagram , there it was. the ignition circuit breaker that's hidden under the speedo- tach. i changed that out and the other 2, 15 amp breakers under there. it's has run fine since i changed them out. i had to order them from an auto parts store, i think they were about $8 each.
