Default Which Progressive 412?

I'm going to get some shorter shocks, I'm thinking 12-12.5" I've heard on here that Progressive 412 are acceptable, and in my price range. Problem is, there is a wide variety of the 412 series. So can anyone with experience with these suggest a specific lenth/model? I tried some elcheapo 12" inch, and they bottomed out on every dip and bump and sent searing pain up my spine. I seldom ride 2up and I'm never loaded up for long distance.
So, should I get the heavy duty? Do I need them? Or is there is a better shock close to the $2-300 dollar range? Thanks.

I was tight on $ because of building my engine but I knew well spent money is money you wont have to respend. So I went with stock length prog 444, there about $5oo. a 1/2" shorter would be all I would venture to go because you pay in ride quality and thats what it's all about.

My stock Showa ride nice. My problem is swinging my leg up over this thing. I have hip problems and it's only getting worse with age. I'm jealous when I see a rider sitting almost a foot lower than this old bike. Guess I'll just have to start carrting a step stool with me, or get one of these

You already have a step, in the form of the footboards! As long as you are parked on good ground, you can use one to help get on the bike.

Those lower bikes are not much lower! You can find a bit in the suspension, but if going with cheap shorter shocks you will probably lose ride quality, as well as ground clearance. It's a difficult juggling act!

If you want shorter shocks and good or even better ride quality, save your pennies and contact Howard at HDF sponsor Motorcycle Metal. He will build you custom shorter shocks just for YOU, that will transform your riding experience. He offers members a decent discount.

I have 12" 412's with heavy springs, if you are going to go with 12's there isn't much travel and light springs will end up bottoming out with some age and load. Heavy springs in the softest position still have some travel, if you go with 13's then the softer springs will work.

If my wife continues to ride, I will probaly have to get different shocks but damn do the 12's make a large barge look cooler
