Haa. Thanks vman, good one. U know I haven't really experimented too much with my starting procedure. I'm kinda a rookie to this, only had the bike a couple years and just lived w it. But I want to ride in the cold cause I can't take it anymore, I didn't throw that ugly windshield on for nothing. I'm a diesel engine mech by trade so this is the wrong fuel for me but I'm bound and determined to figure this out. Thanks for any ideas and keep the knowledge coming. I'm gonna try again tonight and repost.

Default Hard cold start.

Was the enrichener system ok. when you had the carb. apart ?

Is the accelarator pump diaphram ok.?

Is the enrichener jet plugged up ?

Is the low speed jet ok.

You might try removing the air filter , open the throttle and slider and give it a shot of gas into the intake manifold then try to start it . Be sure to have a water supply nearby just in case it backfires out of the carb. etc.

If it seems to fire up better than before then i would say the carb. needs some TLC.

If it doesn't start on in the first two or three seconds, let off the starter button and try again. If it doesn't start the second time, pull the plugs and see if they are wet or dry. If wet try starting it like said above and just pull the enrichner out half way with no throttle twists and try that. If dry pull the enrichner all the way out and give the throttle 3 or 4 good twists. If that doesn't work you might want to check and see if you have spark. I have seen ign. modules do funny things hot or cold. If you have a timing light just hook it up to one of the plug wires and crank it. It should flash every time it turns over or at least every other time if it is a single fire ign.

I had this same issue when I bought mine, and it was the intake gaskets. It ran OK, so I didn't figure it was the case, but I sprayed around the gaskets where they met the head while it was running, and sure enough they were bad. It is an easy check anyway and a cheap fix.
