For those who are curious, I was able to cut the one zip tie by removing the ECU and using a longer pair of scissors, and I was able to pull the duetch connectors after just loosening the two front bolts on the half tanks. No need to drain or fully remove. I did disassemble the connector on the left hand side before pulling it through. I need to pull the ends off anyway to feed them through the bars. I took pictures before pulling all the wires out of the connector so it shouldn't be too tough to get them back together.

I do still have one question... how the hell do I get the old left handgrip off the old bars. They are definitely aftermarket, but its a solid grip with what looks like a rubber insert.

Mike
It is usually a serious PITA to get the left hand grip off.
I just get new grips when changing bars.

There has to be some trick, right? They can't be that hard to get off?

I really didn't want to spend the money on new grips.

If you have an air compressor you can try to shoot air between the grip and the handle bar while twisting the grip.

If you have the handle bars off the bike you will need a vice to hold them.

Ughh. I'm leasing right now so I don't have my air compressor with me. I don't think I can fit anything in there... Great.

So all thats left at this point is getting the throttle cables reconnected and attempting to swap the left grip over.

Running the wires involved a lot of KY jelly, a 55gr .223 bullet eitg dental floss tied around it, and electrical tape. Something I hope to never have to do again. Alas I reconnected the douche connectors and hooked up the battery and all is well.

Cheers,

Mike

Don't your new bars deserve new grips?

Some things just aren't worth the trouble.

Haven't put the grip on yet, but just so you guys know, I stuck a piece of coathanger (straight) into an electrical drill and spun it back and fourth a few times (crawled around the inside of the grip) and it loosened it right up.

Once I have it all together, I'll snap a picture.

What should I use to lube the throttle handgrip? It's VERY sticky on coming back, even with the return cable adjusted loose.
