Default A little feedback please

Hey guys, still wondering if I might have an issue with my fuel. Bought the 95 Heritage early March, so still gett'n to know her. I posted on here a short time ago about bike being totally dead after going 12.6 and 8.5 miles on reserve, on two consecutive occassions. I haven't had time to take apart the petcock and check for contaminants, but will as soon as I get a chance. But, another question that I'd like some feedback on: how far can you guys go before needing reserve? I only ask because this is the second time in a row I've needed to switch to reserve at, get this, exactly 165 miles. Does this sound right to you? I don't ride her hard, and only mod to motor is an Andrew ev-27 cam. I would think I'd be able to go a little further??? Thanks

Your bike has a 4.2 gallon tanks.
165 sounds good to me. (I don't get that much).

Figure out your mpg and see what you get.

The low fuel light in my FLH should be labeled "WALK". When it comes on, I've got about a mile.

TexHC, are you sure he's got 4.2 ? I'm looking at the book right now and the 95 FLSTN shows a 5.2 gallon tank total, .6 reserve.

EDIT, he has a FLSTN, not a standard Heritage.

Mark, in the HD Service Manual: Poor Fuel Economy (and I think at 33mpg we can agree that it's poor) is says check for:
excessive enricher use
enricher valve not sealing or leakng
dirty air cleaner element
high speed riding style
idle speed improperly adjusted
loose jets
fuel level too high
worn or damaged needle or jet
plugged or restricted bowl vent
vacuum piston assembly malfunction
plugged air jets or passages
excessive accelerator pump output

There's obvious solutions for each of these as well but there's some ideas? You mentioned that even after she's warm she spits a little bit...perhaps it's time to pull that carb off and replace the jets, etc?

You may be right I don't know what he has other than a Heritage.
I guess since I own a Heritage Classic that is the first one I think of when someone says heritage. It is a failing on my part.

It makes sense for him to have a N over a C with the total distance he can go.

To the OP my suggestion is to start looking for a gas station when you hit 150 miles on your tank.
