Back when my FXR had a fairly stock engine, stock 5 speed tranny (with 3.37 gears) and belt drive, she would top out real early. 80mph with that set up yielded about 4000rpms. Had her up to 90mph a few times, but the engine was really screaming. 100mph was possible (never did it), but I’m sure the tach would be near redline.
With the 89” stroker motor, the Baker OD-6 tranny, and chain drive (50 tooth rear wheel sprocket/24 tooth tranny sprocket), it is a different motorcycle. 80mph is now the minimum speed for me when cruising the interstate in 6th gear (3000rpms), but she really likes 90-95mph (approx 3600-3700rpms) for cruising.
With the upgraded suspension (Ohlins in back and FXDX in front), along with Metmachex aluminum swingarm, the bike is rock solid at over 100mph. I rarely go that fast, but in the bike’s current configuration, it easily pulls right past 100mph and will keep right on going. I don’t intend on finding out what she will top out at, since the “H” rated Avon tires are only rated to 130mph. I figure that 110mph is about my personal limit on this bike. Past that speed, the risk vs reward curve starts getting really steep.
