So, Just as the title states.. Top Speed.. What is the round about top speed of this engine. I get up around 80 and the whole world begins to vibrate. It seems that it wants to pull past 80mph but I don't want to do any damage if its not meant to handle it.
I have basic mods if it makes a diff. V&H pipes, KN air-filter, stock carb. 96'fxstc
*disclaimer* I dont normally travel at these speeds, but pulling out on to the hwy the other other day I had to get on her to beat the traffic.
I've got a '98 FXDS, with Screaming eagle Breather and Pipes. I've had her up to 100 just once. She was still accelerating, but I chickened out. I ride the Inter-state a lot, and can tell you this....over 70 that soft and easy feeling changes to what I would discribe as a strain. It vibrates a lot more. I run a windshield. At 80 and above she runs for hours, but I'm always feeling that I'm going "to fast". My wife apsolutely does not like riding with me out there. I also found that ambient wind, and the draft of big rigs increase the pucker factor. I love my Dyna, but cured the problem when I bought my 2nd Harley.....a 2007 Road King. Now at 80, I feel like I'm sitting back on the sofa watching Fox News. Mamma doesn't mind saddling up for a long ride either. Bottom line....I think that the Evo motor will handle just about anything you can dish out....but there are more comfortable platforms when biking at excessive speed.
Had mine just over 100 once when the wife and I were "racing to the barn"
That was just a short burst though it was still accelerating but I backed off. This 'ol speed demon had left the building and I'd much rather cruise the secondary roads, though we have done plenty of 200 mile hauls at 70+ without issue.
I hit 95 on the way down the interstate. It probably had more but I realized that I did not. Since then I've done all the "cool" cam/ignition/air work to go faster knowing that I never will.
About a 100 on my decker, there was still some space on the throttle left. Will see how fast she'll go with one more gear
didn't even bother checking it on the heritage with apes - too scary
same, i douche-out at 100. bike wants it more than me i guess... 6 replies and no 'it's a Harley not a Ferrari' attack yet. damn, all u haters must be riding.
i'm already back from my 2nd trip..
i had my 96 fxd up to 110 once or twice. over a 100 several times.. that speed on my bike woops youre ***! lol. i have the need for speed and thats why i bought a harley and not a rocket. keeps my calmed down for the most part! plus harley's are cooler anyway!
