Default Full synth oil

Hiya, I am having loud ticking noises also, I have a Mikuni carb, so ticking is standard, but lately, after doing an oil change and switching to full synthetic oil, the ticking is super loud and sounds like it's coming from the area of the cam. Was just about to tear it all apart, but I think after reading your post, I should just drain it and put in the 20W-50 I was running before. Would this gum the engine tho? Mahalo.

Just a question. have you cleaned the Tappet screen. Something often over looked on the EVO.

Go back to conventional and see how it sounds. No the synthetic is not "gumming up" anything. As mentioned, check screen. If problem persists after oil change, start thinking other issues like lifters or cam bearing. Try to narrow down the area the sound is coming from. I hope it's as simple as an oil change. YD

A simple rule to follow is
If something is now wrong that wasn’t wrong before it was touched then it’s something you touched last.
Like YD said, put in the 20/50 and see what happens.

Ah yes! Thank you, that would also maybe tell me if there is any damage to tappets and lifters. I did forget about this and it's so quick and easy to do.
