Last question... I cant get the rear tappet block out. Its hitting a fin on the motor before I can get it up far enough to come out. I have used a paper clip to lift the lifters up but didn't help. Any suggestions?
Use fishing line threaded through the spring clips to get the lifters out of the way.
I usually pull the cam and drop the lifters out the bottom on strip down and use fishing line on reassembly.
oh man..Ive never pulled a cam out before. Looks like Im gonna have to in order to change the rear lifters. Ive tried everything. I just likes a hair of coming out.

It should come out because it has to go back in with the cam in place....Have you got the lifters high enough?....try putting your tongue on the other side of your mouth
Not that I think you are dumb but you are aligning the lifter rollers with the slots in the lifter blocks so that they come up as high as possible? If you don't do this you will never get the blocks out.
Might be a dumb question but what does a exhaust gasket leak sound like on an EVO? I'm still learning. I've heard some vehicles with a exhaust leak sound like they have a rod knocking. I'm sure you have probably checked it but just a thought...

yeah lol they are lined up with the slots. u know the way the blocks r made they have a part that kinda stick down into the case a bit. I don't know.. its like the cylinder head is shifted to the side just a bit. U think it would hurt to take my cutoff tool and maybe just shave that one fin a little bit?

Shouldn't need to do that but it looks like the only solution if you don't wanna drop the cam.

got everything back together today..Yay! but... I started it up and its sounds like a freaking sewing machine. Like u can hear every valve/lifter in it rattling. Im pretty sure I adjusted the pushrods right. They are 24 tpi , the manual says 2.5 turns and I went alittle closer to 3. You think the lifter are just taking awhile to "pump up"? I only let it run about 3 mins cause of the hell it was raising. May try to readjust just to make sure. Any thoughts?
