I only let it run about 3 mins cause of the hell it was raising. May try to readjust just to make sure. Any thoughts?

If your EVO sounds like a pissed off sewing machine then everything is perfect!!!!

That is just how they sound.

Happens to me when I change lifters. It can take several minutes for new lifters to purge themselves of air and pump up with oil. It's a nerve wracking minute or two until that happens.

Sometimes I've had to grit my teeth and ride the bike around the block to get the RPMs and oil pressure up enough to pump the lifters the first time.

Thanks UncleG and EVERYONE else that has guided me through this my first time replacing lifters. I went out and re-adjusted the pushrods to the 2.5 turns the manual says instead of the 3 turns I did the first time. Purring like a kitten!! Its never sounded so good. Lifters was definitely my problem! Id like to thank each and every one that helped me along the way. Ready to put her in the wind!! I just called off work tomorrow so I can ride!! See yall on the back roads!!

Yeah, that new lifter cackle is bad for the blood pressure, can take up to 5 miles to go away....

I was thinking they just needed to be pumped up. Letting them sit and re-adjusting them may have just accomplished that. Regardless, Good Job. If those were the original lifters, you got your money out of them.

This is odd. I bought new lifter blocks with the intention of replacing mine, and then discovered I couldn't install the new rear lifter block. There's an extra "lump" of material on the side near the case, and I can't fit the lifter block through the hole in the case with the rear cylinder installed. My old tappet block isn't like this. If this is the way H-D is machining their lifter blocks now, I hope I never have to get another new or remanufactured motor, as it's now apparently impossible to remove the rear tappet block without first removing the cylinder.

So, did you ever actually get the lifter block out, or did you have to go in through the gearcase? If you couldn't get the block out, how did you change the rear lifter block gasket?
