1997 owned it for 6 months 51,000 miles i guess a stock bike meaning no special air cleaner and factory pipes.
A rough idle? if large surging back/forth it could be engine temp. sensor and it would make bike very difficult to drive with surging.
A rough idle? if idle is a little off it could be a leak by manifold and a quick shot of wd-40 should isolate the gasket.
Bad gas or contaminated OLD gas could block the fuel pump intake and cause starvation for fuel.
M & M fuel injected bikes have a crank position sensor connector that gets loose on throttle side, under seat behind the plastic side cover hidden by frame tube.

Did this problem start after you put the air horn on? You might have knocked the connection loose or otherwise damaged one of the temp sensors.

Found three out of four intake bolts missing with the last one loose, both plastic seals shot.. Replaced with older style metal ones. Front compression at 90 with the rear at 150. will address that this winter. Still need to check codes and sensors. Thx

I just signed up and this is my first post. So please forgive, I can't figure out how to start a topic.... I also have a 1997 FLHTCUI with 117,000 miles. I've had it for almost 7 yrs and yesterday she decided not to run properly. I have good spark, but changed plugs anyways. When I start her up sounds like she is running off one cylinder. Closest dealership is 75 miles one way from me so riding her there isn't an option. I have changed temp sensor last summer as well as throttle position sensor 3 weeks ago. When I run codes all I get is flashing light. Will flash 12 times then 15 with a second pause then 16 and just continues to flash. Any ideas would help.

What do those codes mean? I don't have a book for your bike.

Next, do you have compression? Without a compression meter, you can use your built in compression meter (your thumb). Remove plugs. Place compression meter over spark plug hole. Crank. Does compression blow built in compression meter off hole? If yes, you have compression. No, found your problem, did we. Repeat with other plug hole.

I've been to Pahrump.

Dr. Hess
I will have to double check the compression. As for the codes, I haven't a clue. According to the book the light is supposed to flash "x amount of times for the first number" then pause for 2 seconds and flash "y amount of times for the second number" in the code. However, 15 and 16 isn't a first number. Which when I replaced the TPS that is exactly what it did. Gave me a single flash for the first number and then a single flash for the second number for a total of "11".

You have been through Pahrump? I'm guessing you were going to or coming from Death Valley? Well if your ever back out this way drop a line and if I can maybe we can find a ride time.

Yeah, went through from Vegas to LA through Death Valley, in the afternoon, on a shovelhead. Interesting.

Beemervet's link suggests you didn't plug something in.
