I turned 100k a few days ago. I was going to my sisters today, stopped to fill up with 00130 showing. About half way there, at around 00177, I noticed the 10ths really whipping, backwards! Now it reads 99798! At the rate it's going, I'll be back to 00000 in a month or two. Do they always go in reverse around 100k? Funny thing.
That's a new one on me. Mine didn't run backwards after 100,000, but the odometer DID quit working at about 103,000 something miles, forcing me to replace the speedo.

I wish I could replace the speedo. It reads 20 when I'me going 40. My only option is to find a panel. I passed on one on eBay a while back for $125! Everything else I've seen is $300-$400, if I can find one at all.
Texas, I didn't thin it was supposed to do that, and I'm really puzzled as to how it can do that! the simple gearing in those things just shouldn't allow for it. But it is!

Look at it this way your bike is getting younger all the time.
You can take them apart and check/fix the internals. Usually it is just something that came lose or needs realignment. It's kind of a witch getting the trim ring off (time consuming), but there are a few web pages that show how to do it.
If you don't want to go that route, keep watching fleabay. Deals come up every now and then. YD
