The bike has been down, that right there is a price killer and for me a deal killer unless they are at rock bottom prices.. A Harley cannot hit the ground moving and only break a blinker lens and that master mechanic comment scares me more than it being down. Go real cheep and/or keep looking...

Agree, don't like bikes that went down at some speed.

Feel the same way. I asked again today if that was the ONLY damage, and he said running lamp bulb (not blinker lens, sorry) busted, windshield scraped up a little, and saddlebag scuffed up. I was just kinda surprised he was up front off the bat about it going down in the first place. Think I might offer 5k or just keep looking...

Says it has no known mechanical issues, and the only thing cosmetic was when it "slid on the road" when he swerved to miss a dog, and it busted a turn signal lense. He said he f-ed his shoulder up on that spill, and needs cash for bills right now. The two pics I've seen look pretty good, and he's sending more. He's asking $6500 obo, but is over 5 hrs. away in another state.
What do you guys think? Any questions I should ask before that kind of road trip? Worth it? I would hate to make the trip just to be let down!
Seems like a lot of everything is OK but...
All stock but...
PO but...
Then add mechanic story plus injury story..
I would believe ZERO and look at any unknown history bike just like an auction bike.
Check everything and trust nothing.
If bike is 5 hours away and hits all the buttons then have them meet you in the middle.
First ask for:
Clean title?
Do all parts match? gas tank, fenders etc. should have a white sticker under each. get picture.
Are forks and down tubes straight? pictures. Lots of pictures of critical areas.
Are they OK with meeting at a harley dealer mid way for a mechanic inspection?
I will guess the individual will decline if something is not correct.

If it was bike I really liked ( price considered), I'd have to ride it. Set the throttle lock at speed, remove hands from handlebars, and see how it tracks - I know that's not recommended, but I do it when buying any used bike anyway.

Note: that's my style, PROCEED WITH CAUTION. If the bike looks and tracks A-Okay, ie the frame looks in good order, etc, then you have to make a decision.

Like I said previously, I don't like bikes that went down at some speed. They need special consideration.

Against my better judgement (and the fact that I can't find much else), I took a 6 hour trip to go see the bike. Huge disappointment. It had rust in many places, the case and frame vins didn't match, and when I rode it (shouldn't have even bothered) when you let go of the bars it would immediately drift to the left (side it went down on), and the front end would wobble if your hands weren't on the bars @around 35 mph. Needless to say I was a little ticked that I spent $180 in gas and wasted 12 hours of my life. Oh well, the search continues....
