Default run better with super?

What do you run? Regular or super? I have an 88 heritage with Cycle shacks & Cv Carb. With a force winder.

I use 98 Octane in NZ, its our most premium gas although I can fill up on Av Gas at Kumeu, which is only 20 mins away.

I generally run best in the morning. Once I've had supper, I'm ready to plop in front of the TV and relax. My FXR, however, seems to do well on mid-grade gas and so I don't need to giver her any super.

The rule of thumb is to give your vehicle whatever grade gas allows it to run without knocking. Higher grades than that don't allow the motor to run better unless it is a turbocharged or supercharged engine or has a knock sensor that can advance timing for better performance. In the real world, gas companies often put a better additive package in their premium gas that could be beneficial over time.

Thanks. I have got a knock while climbing a hill. I'll try a higher octane fuel. Now what's for supper.

It is really more of a ping than a knock.

Have your timing strobed before changing gas, you could be running advanced.

That's one reason why I love evos, hard to find premium in the smaller towns out here and my bikes run great on 87. You can get 89 but that's 10% ethanol.
