Default softail ignition switch swap?

I have a 1989 fxstc with the 6 lead screw connector terminal switch. Has anyone converted theirs to the 93 up switch with the 3 terminal plug in? Can it be done?

The 3 terminal plug in started in '96.

Just out of curiosity why do you want to?

After my second OEM switch broke (one of the rivets/contacts sheared off), I bought a better replacement from J&P.

they make an older style one with newer internal electronics instead of the old rollers/contacts. I got one on my 85 FXWG from Eastern Performance.

Talking repaired switch for now

My switch had been throwing sparks and tripping out the main c.b. Took it apart and one end of the copper bar has what looks like a copper staple on the end that is spring loaded. What happened is the leg of the 'staple' became bent and when I would turn the switch, this bent leg would contact the wrong terminal. Repaired it for now[actually working like new]. Don't trust it though. I have a 3 lead one also that is in excellent shape, just don't know if it can be made to work. I have seen them on jp cycles[the original style] and they are around $30 and available. But had I used seafoam this would have never happened!

just found it on their website but on cell so no linkie. I may try this as the softail is simply vibrating too much and every so often on a smooth highway at 75mph i get a spark from that area as it is hard to pinpoint paying attention to the road and not looking for it. directionals wont work, the horn wont beep, there are no dash lights except neutral and high-beams and possibly oil pressure but that is another issue in a different thread.

I bought my switch from JP. I think it was a drag specialties switch.
