Tried to search for previous post on the K&N air filter, but couldn't find what I was looking for. I recall a specific one that will boost acceleration/hp? Can anyone give me the part no. or tell me which one it is? Also, is there a noticeable difference from stock? Thanks gents
Although, some people may argue this, for a stock motor or even a stage1 you'll notice little or noting in real world difference simply by switching to a K&N. If your running open exhaust and you switch from stock to a high flow AC you may have to rejet if it creates an overly lean condition.

Any K&N filter will do. But not just the filter alone. You need "The Big 3". IE: Exhaust / Filter / Tune or Jet.
I picked one up on eBay today for a fraction of the price anywhere else. Visit k & n's website to look up the part number for the one for your bike then take that part number and put it in ebay's search engine.

Best results are if you use the SE backplate and replace the filter element with K&N part number 0800 or 0900 depending on model or year.
My bad. I guess I am assuming it's the stock air filter, but Idk? Bought the bike this year from oo who lost a lot of his mental capacities due to a stroke. What he did recall is it has an Andrews ev-27 cam and the cam bearing was swapped out at install. When I took it to HD to have it inspected, I was told the pipes weren't stock and the carb was more than likely tweaked ( Idk if that means stage 1) to have everything in sync. All I know is bike runs great, however I have nothing to compare it too since this is my first evo. I would assume everything is in order since she runs so strong and smooth. However, she feels a little piggish through the first few gears. This is the main reason I was exploring getting a different air filter….in hopes of a little more acceleration. I've got awesome power from about 45 mph up, no complaints there.
You will only make a gain if you still have the stock airbox. That is a fully enclosed intake silencer with a moulded plastic backplate and chrome front, plus a small air intake pointing down. It is very restrictive and replacement by any decent aftermarket filter (I used SE) with the other improvements mentioned by FXDWG12 will give you decent improvements in performance.
There is no single replacement item that will give a boost in performance! That is advertising hype or internet myth. K&N make good products, but they are only human, like the rest of us! By all means use one, plus the other 'stage 1' changes, if your bike doesn't already have them.
Spanners ..is there a difference in performance between filter 0800 and 0900? I've always liked the look of the stock chrome round filter cover, and would like to keep it that way. It looks like filter 0800 is all that I would need to purchase and will fit with stock components. While filter 0900 (oval) would require purchasing a new backplate as well as cover, correct?
