1989 FLHS Tachometer Problem
The tachometer on my 1989 FLHS doesn't work. To troubleshoot, what should be the steps taken to try and solve this problem ?
Waiting on a manual but would like to get started sooner.
Also, no lights working on the dash. How is it removed to check the bulbs. Would help to know since my running lights don't come on either. Could check wiring while in there.

ray to pull the dash cover the nut right below the speedo & if your trip setting **** is on the side theres a tiny screw in there take it out pull the **** & lift up the dash cover ,as for the rest wate on the service manual double check all fuse's & go from there
1990 FLHS here, owned from new. Remove the two screws in the instrument panel AND the tiny screw down inside the trip reset **** (don't forget that! It is a 0 sized cross-head), then remove the **** by pulling on it, you will be able to lift the panel, but not by much. That is because the speedo cable is attached, so carefully unscrew the knurled **** - I use needle-nose pliers. That will let you lift the panel further, as there is plenty of wiring underneath. If you also remove the headlamp you may get slightly better access.
