Default Speedo/Dash removal

Probably a dumb question.

I'm trying to remove my dash and speedometer on my 94 fxstc. The manual says to remove the acorn nut just below the speedo and the "odometer **** screw" on the side of the dash. The pic in the factory manual is black and white and difficult to make out, but it looks like it's pointing to a nut on the side of the dash next to the trip-reset ****. My dash doesn't have any nuts, bolts, or screws on the side of the dash. So I took off the acorn nut below the speedo. The dash is loosened, but won't come off due to the speedo still being attached. Do I need to remove the trip-reset **** somehow. If so, how does that come off? I can usually figure simple stuff like this out, but I don't want to break anything. Thanks.

The trip reset **** has to be removed to remove the dash cover. The reset **** is held on by a TINY Phillips head screw in the center hole of the ****. Use a miniature Phillips head screwdriver to remove it, then slide the reset **** off.

Those ***** are notorious for falling off. Use a tiny dot of loc-tight when you reassemble.

Don't use too much, or you will strip the screw head next time you have to remove it.

Personally, I've never used Loctite on anything on the outside of my bike and never had anything fall off either, but then.....

That screw is the smallest part on a Harley I have come across that most of us are likely to bump into. I have a suitable screw-driver dedicated to that and that alone!
