I use Pirelli MT66 front and rear because I get them very cheap and they work just fine. My mates laugh and say I should use night dragon because they are better but on a Harley a lot of the capacity of a better tyre isn't used if you ride normally. I used to be a
Metzeler fan until I realised I was wasting my money. Just avoid any Asian brands with the exception of bridge stone.

what about Dunlop? I think they make tires for HD and the dealer has them in stock.

BF Goodrich makes an awesome tire for my offroading I use 33 x 12.5 x 15 BFG AT KO's things are unkillable--I was thinking brands I recognized like Dunlop or Michilin but I also know each brand and each type can have it's "dogs" So to drop $500 on two tires installed and then find out they suck monkey "you-know-what" would bug me

Dunlops are generally not loved in the USA but the ones my Lowrider came with were fine.

I would go with a European Brand, Pirelli, Metzeler, Avon or Continental, any of them would be fine plus Bridgestone.

Pirelli 66's for price, Metzeler 880 for a combination of price and performance, Pirelli Night Dragons stick like glue but don't last and Avons also perform well but are pricey and don't last....which is why I use the MT66 because for what I pay for them I don't care how long they last and they handle fine.

No European tyre is gonna make you wish you hadn't bought them...its a safe bet.

Been using the stock Dunlops on my 93 FLHS since new. They do have their quirks. But for the most part I have no evidence of anything bad. Tire discussions usually end up like oil discussions....

OP: I usually get at least 10,000 on the rear and a good 15,000 on the front. Tire wear is all dependent on too many individual factors, to speculate what your's might be.

Dunlop makes some good tires.
However the stock Harley 402 ain't one of them.
Most people that run 402's haven't run anything else.
If they did they would understand how bad the 402's are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I run the Dunlop 491 Elite II's and I hear very good things about the Elite 3's.

I try to stick to American made products so I'll keep the Dunlops.

I have run every make of tyre there is over the years and my 402's were the best in the wet of any of them...I know...I don't believe it either

My 402's slipped on all tar snakes and road paint!
I find it hard to believe that they were good in the wet for you.

I think channeling TD has messed with your head!!!!
Nothing for it but to get a bottle of Tequila and get your head right!!!!!

We don't have tar snakes much over here and we use a different road paint...maybe that has something to do with it....

Over here if they build a new road its a miracle! We don't have all that many roads as we don't have all that many places...and only 4.5 million people to use them ;-)
