Default Removing wheels 1997 FXDL

I have the Clymer's book, bought the Haynes manual and the two parts manuals on this bike (1997 Dyna Low Ride)

How hard is it to remove the rims off the bike? Is there a "How to" anywhere? It will be way cheaper to get new tires if I just bring them the rims. I have basic to above basic wrenching skills And didn't really see a how to do this in Clymers.

Thanks,

Lee

Obviously you need some sort of jack/lift. Other than that, it's not real tough. Other than one time, I have always removed the wheels and taken them in to get new tires mounted.

Get the Factory Service Manual (FSM) for your bike. The other's are a bit generic.

Provided you have a jack or a lift where both wheels can be removed its really no big deal.

say you have a bike jack aka lift , get both wheels off the floor about 6in & just loosen the axel nut & watch out what spacer goes where , there one on each side of the (back) wheel make sure brake caliper is loose , also get the parts manual & factory service manual, I found mine at badasschrome.com , you have to look around there site a bit to find them but they have(had them)

First and most important trash the Clymer and Haynes manuals and get a OEM manual.
If your dyna is like my heritage you will have to take the brake caliper off first.
Then loosen the axel nut (just loosen don't take it off yet).
Slide the jack under the bike and jack it up till the bike is upright and the tire is just touching the ground.
Remove the axel while taking note of where all the spacers are so you can put them back in the same place.
Take out caliper mounting bracket.
Roll the tire forward to get slack in the belt and slip the bottom of the belt off the pulley.
Jack the bike the rest of the way up so you can roll the tire out easily.
Reverse the order to put it back.

Refer to manual for torque specs when reinstalling the wheel.

I always get your sage advice after I buy stuff Clymers came with bike. I purchased the Haynes and the OEM parts books. I'll seek out the OEM manual --check out the site Cowboy mentioned.

OK I can do this! Thanks guys.

I have a Clymer for my bike time I tried to look up something (torque specs) I couldn't find it so I dropped it back in the drawer and forgot about it.
