Dunlops are standard. I have a Michelin on the back I like. No experience with anything else. The Michelin seemed a lot stickier than the Dunlop when new, can't tell any difference now. Maybe I'm just used to 'em now.
What kind of riding do you do? What is more important to you? Mileage or performing? Do you ride in the rain, or on grooved roads.
Top end would be Metzelers (my choice) or I've heard good things about Dunlop E3s and Avon Venom.
Last choice would be anything from China or Harley OEM, Dunlop 402.
Stay away from shinko tires they ride and handle awesome but wear like ****. I have one on the back of my 95 ultra and at 1700 miles it half worn out. I'm going to try dunlop elite 3 tires.
I just changed out the Dunlop D402's on my 99 Softail Custom that had a little over 17,000 miles on them. They still had a little tread left but decided it was time to change. Probably could have gotten another 1,000 out of them. I went back with the same tires as I was very happy with them. They handle just fine for me. Gave me a chance to repack my wheel bearings while I was changing tires. I really enjoy doing the work myself, and saves me a few bucko's.
