I went out for a ride today and as i was cruising along some thing between the engine and back wheel let go. No more go, engine runs good but thats it. I have pulled the primary cover and checked the chain and clutch are ok and the drive belt is still there. This happened all of a sudden and it didnt make any noise when it happened or after wards as i was coasting to a safe place to stop. Any ideas? Thanks David
I suggest pulling the primary cover, putting the bike in gear and pushing it forward (or spinning the back wheel) and see where the "go" stops. Is the clutch basket turning?
Whatever it is, it's coming apart, so that's next. Maybe the belt sprocket on the trans. Maybe the clutch basket to shaft interface. Maybe the transmission input shaft. Maybe the transmission.
Probably the woodruffe key on the mainshaft has crapped itself. Best fix is to upgrade to the splined mainshaft and use the later clutch....especially if the shaft or basket are damaged.
Yea i thought the key too, but i was wrong the key is fine. It must be in the trans. I got the clutch hub off and with the trans in gear when you turn the rear wheel and input shaft does not turn.

Whatever it is it won't be pretty...or cheap to fix. Let us know what you find!
Yes Sir I will keep you guys updated. I have to wait till friday to get the inner primary off because i loaned out my 1 1/2 socket and have to retrieve it.
but I have a lead on a used transmission with only 33000 miles off a well maintained wrecked bike so if the trans guts are to bad I will just replace it.
