I am thinking about changing the stock gas caps on my 95 Heritage (carbureted) to a flush mount mount chrome pop up type. I see there are a lot of brands and types out there. What is good? What is junk? Is there really much of a difference? Is there a downside to these types of caps?
I have not yet seen a downside, but I bought the JP Cycles brand caps. They're metal (some are plastic) they've worked great for me and I love the way they look. A guy I ride with picked up th Kuryakyn brand that are "locking" and it looks like a pain to me.
If there's a downside I will learn along with you. The only complaint I have is that when I press them down my fingerprints get on the top and I have a smudge right where I can see it!
they screw in like a regular cap and the center is a pushdown/spring loaded 1/4 turn to lock. it's as simple as it gets
Thanks. I figured it was like that but wanted to make sure it wasn't something along the lines of having to change the bung inside or some other "involved" installation.
The three main ones that have caught my eye and are really not very distinguishable from each other are jpcycles, drag specialties, and biker's choice. Harley makes some too, but I think they are for fuel injected models.

not distiguishable because the same exploited kid in the far-east makes them in multiples of three and each pair falls into one bin that reads DS, Ted or Kury then the QC guy checks on set from each bin then gives them his blessing in which case the kid gets to eat that week. If there is a problem then the rattan stick comes out and it's lash for each set.
mine are from ebay for $20 and came with an assortment of gaskets and if the kid got beat then I say fine as he shoulda been concentrating more and there's a younger girl with her sights on his sweatshop er job.
