Default FXSTC Evo Tune up

I've got a '94 Softail and I'm just looking to give the engine some more power.

It currently pulls well with a slight flat spot half way through the rev range. Ideally I would just like to smooth out the power delivery and give it a +10% boost on the HP and Torque.

I live in the UK so any advice on good tuners in the South West would also be appreciated.

Ignition Module / Cam or both??

Currently running std apart form:-
Screaming Eagle Slip on's + Air Fliter
Dynojet Carb Kit

Im the least of these on the forum but yes a descent EV27 cam with new bearing, A hotter ignition, rejet carb, and a 2 into 1 exhaust would wake up your motor.

Thanks Aces,
I figured the EV27 was a good option with Torrington bearings I guess.
How about a performance ignition module, any recommendations?

I have liked the Dyna ignition systems. I replaced the SE ignition with a Dyna and it works well for me. The Vthunder 3010 or 3020 are good cams to. [ bolt in cams ] dont need Engine modifications. Dont over cam a moderate build. So ev27 or a 3010 would work well.

Thanks mate,
That's great advice, just what I was looking for.
I'm thinking fit the Ignition Module myself (it's just a plug in mod, no timing to worry about), Do I just need to disconect the battery first or is there anything else I need to do.

The cam , well I think I'll get my local dealer to fit it.

I bought my 1990 bike new, which was an International spec bike and differed in several ways from US spec bikes, because ours had to be quieter! One of the features is that ignition timing was compromised, so a replacement module would be a good idea. That way you will get a smoother 'normal' advance curve. I used a Crane.

Also look into your inlet manifold, with the throttle wide open. My bike had a restrictor in the manifold, with a 28mm hole in it, which roughly halved the effective area of the carb! It is easily removed, with a little patience, but let us know if you find one.

Hi Graham,

Thanks for your feedback and the tip.

I'll take a look in the inlet manifold tomorrow, I had a dynajet kit fitted when I bought the bike back in '94, so hopefully it would have been dealt with, but it's certainly worth a quick look!

I don't know how long they used the darned thing, but know that after I bought mine it became common policy for dealers to replace the stock manifold with a US spec one. If you dealer did your mods I suspect your bike will be fine, even if it had one when new.
