Update: It's a '97 Fatboy not a '96 as previously thought.
Drained the tank, put in new gas and jumped the battery.......cranked right up!!
Potato-potato-potato!
Took it for a little spin, clutch was slipping pretty bad at higher rpm's in gears 1-4. Transmission would only allow downshifting to slip to the next lower gear when rpm's lowered enough each gear.
I'm assuming at this point the bike may just need a clutch adjustment but as easily as it was slipping.....worst case scenario would be a new clutch. Easy fix.
Other than that, it just felt a little sloppy in the steering. I'll check the neck bearing and tighten it up a little. That also could be the fact that I've only ever owned Dynas and the current Street Glide. It's definitely a much smaller bike than any HD I've ever ridden in leg room. I'm 5-11" with a 32" inseam.

When I bought mine 97 Softail, she had been sitting (in a living room) for 8 years.
Carb didnt need a rebuild. I changed some cables, (clutch and brake cables) and the seals in my brake master cylinders werent doing too well so those were replaced too. Also had my calipers front and rear rebuilt.
Apart from that, she ran well.
Edited to add: Mine also slipped when I first got her, even after adjusting the clutch all the way. I got some Barnetts Clutch plates and all slipping stopped (I just cant find Neutral that easily now but I think thats my fault, as per another thread I started here)
So Roger That, I assume you bought it? Did you really pay 3K for it?? You need to get Traildog down there and he'll buff that whole thing out nice for you, it'll look brand new. Is there anything that could get TD hotter than a FULL CHROME DISC WHEEL to polish?? Seriously, a little time spent detailing that bike and you've got yourself a winner. If you scored that for 3K, you should not sleep well at night.
Roger that, just one thing, if not already done , you might wanna look at getting your cam bearing changed with a torrington bearing. Less than $10. The stock INA ones are prone to failure with some potentially expensive consequences
And altho not necessary, but while you're changing the bearing, you might wanna slap a new cam in there, it sure wakes the 80ci Evo motor up

Yup, in the process. I did feel a little guilty....for a couple of days. I even tried to talk him into hanging on to it and riding some more with me, but he just isn't comfortable riding anymore. I don't want to push him if he doesn't feel right. So...I sleep ok. You're right though, it does need some lovin'. I'll be buffing her up once I figure out what I want to do with her. Maybe a little facelift.

Thanks for the heads up! I'll be learning on the EVO and this is why this forum is so great. Someone who's been there/done that. I'll look into that in the near future. Might hit you up down the road for your experiences on the cam/ bearing upgrade....as well as that awesome rear fender kit you put on your sled!

NO WAY I'm cleaning this thief's bike ......Nice score though....
I will only be more than happy to share what I know
The rear fender kit is from a very well known company based in LA. I first discovered their kits via the internet, and then only realized after that I knew the owner of the company, and had met him when I was 15 or so, good friend of the family. Can put you in touch with them should you ever decide to go down that route in future (I make no money whatsoever from it )
