Does this apply to EVO's as well as Twinkies??

It does but the dude is a heretic like me

With the S&S manifolds I do believe there are two different thicknesses of manifold rubber....I will check with my S&S guys tomorrow but I had a real hard time getting an S&S motor to work once and it was the manifold seals...watch this space...

Iv talked to a few mechanics & S&S about the seals and get different opinions. S&S said to tighten bolts to 15 lbs. S&S told me on the seals," use their seal" and then said," if, and ,but, then". So Now I am confused. Seems like it depends who you talk to.

Usually depends on which brand of tequila is at hand.

I had a leak on my 1991 FLT after reinstalling manifold, but the leak was between carb and manifold. I got the manifold installed at wrong angle and then when you bolt carb air filer or what ever mounts you have to heads, it pulls carb away from manifold and caused bad leak. I would mount manifold loosely, than install carb and bolt to heads firmly. Than tighened up manifold at heads with carb holding it at the correct angle.

Thanks, that is generally how I do it also. I leave everything a little loose then get a good alignment on everything before snugging everything up a little at time so everything aligns well.

Manifold should still move with the bolts tightened, its only sitting in rubber...that's how I aligned Kees's manifold, tightened it all up with it aligned by "eyecrometer" and pulled it into its final possie once the carby was in the manifold.

Thanks span, sounds like the ticket. In that case I would think to use the thicker HD seals as long as they fit snugly.

The S&S manifolds use a thin rubber seal for the Super G's and the stock H-D seals for the E series so my man at the Indy informs me.....so you probably should be using stock ones.
