Would any of you pull a nail out of a tire and plug it and leave the plug in as a permanent repair? Rear tire only. Tubeless tire on Fatboy wheel also.

I've plugged many tires. I used to buy them cheap at the swap meet with holes, I'd just plug them. Never had a blowout. I do it, but others will....well, you know, bitch.

I would never plug a tubeless bike tire. If you have a fairly new tire that is in good shape, put a tube in it. Us spoke guys have to do this anyways.

I've plugged cage tires countless times as a permanent repair. Most have been fine, but have had 1 or 2 seperate and/or leak again after some time. I would only plug a bike tire as a last resort, and it would be temporary. If you do plug, make sure you do it correctly, it does make a difference as to the integrity and longevity of the seal.

This is a downgrade... tubes suck, and you run the risk of having the tire come off the rim when running a tube.

Plug it, and then replace it as soon as you can. If the hole is small enough patches can be a permanent repair, but larger holes, only patch it good enough to get you to the bike shop to get it changed. Tires are cheap... losing skin, chrome, and paint isn't... sitting on the side of the road sucks too.

As long as the puncture is near the center of the tread, you will have no problem plugging it. The closer it is to the sidewall, the less successful the plug will be. If you decide the plug it, use a quality "mushroom" type plug...never use a "rope" type plug for a permanent repair.

Just because you survived them doesn't mean they're better. Radial tires are an improvement, and are better technology. Tubes suck in the modern day and age.

There are a whole bunch of bikes running with tubes.
I currently am but switching to tubeless next tire change.

My front is spoked, so it requires a tube. Probably going to fill it full of green slime or something.
