Well, I took it in to the shop...."$100 or so". Damn, for $160 I could have a brand new one. But he said it will be "like new". So this afternoon I'll get it back, and put it in and see if that was the problem. It better be for a $100 "or so" rebuild. He took it apart in front of me, not much to it.

I hope he gave you a warranty with that.

I have a friend that rides a '97 Heritage (granted, different starter) that had his rebuilt by the shop and it didn't work.
He then bought a new one and the new one worked fine.

I hope you don't have his troubles.

Yea. Asked him about a warranty, and he said "sure". Well, it works, cranks right over. Wish I hadn't jumped for the battery. Everyone told me is was good, but I went ahead and got a new one anyway, $140 I didn't need to spend.

I had to have my starter rebuilt on my `89. It was working fine (only had just over 130k on it), but the big cable that goes to the windings had a rip in the insulation.

That part (yoke assembly) from Harley was about 150 bucks.

The local starter shop rebuilt it for 80, including the new yoke assembly, and it was ready the next day.

Default starter fix

Blue I did the same today, called a shop I used yrs ago to build a starter for my 377 vega. Had to go by local shop "KnuckleDraggers" on 301 in Starke, who let me get a solenoid Saturday without paying for it till today, and he reminded me of him. I droped off and got home and he had it done. gotta pick it up in am
