I have been thinking about going with the true duals on my electraglide. It's more of a sound issue for me. I'm not all that crazy about the sound from the stock headpipes with slip-ons. I want to keep the slip-ons but would like more of that Harley sound. The rear cylinder split on the stock head pipes seems to give the FL's a distinct but, not all that potato potato sound and they muffle and jumble up the exhaust note. I know it's weird but, some bikes sound good and some don't.
You have a number of choices. When I modified mine I used a Fullsac TD kit, which modifies the stock pipes you currently have. It's cheaper than buying fresh pipes. However after a while I replaced that set-up with a pair of Samson TD pipes and used the same mufflers.
However you will lose performance! I later went to my current 2-into-1 and had the bike dyno tuned by the same shop who did my TDs. The headline numbers were very similar, although I picked up a little extra torque, but the increase in low/mid range torque was 15%. That is a lot of improved performance, in the rev range we mostly ride in, believe me! I was also delighted with how much smoother and nicer my bike is to ride, than with the TDs.
So by all means try TDs, but don't be surprised if you change back!
I have Fullsac true duals on mine, and they do sound and look great. However, I've been looking hard at the RB Racing LSR 2 into 1. Not sure just yet if I'm willing to spend that much $ on something that isn't going to make the bike look better, but only run better! They don't look so bad, though, as this pic from their website shows:
FullSac user here. I simply like the way the a/c side of the bike opened up, I thought, think the Y pipe is dopey looking. I did notice a drop in power, not significant but noticeable.

The fullsac kit is pretty cool no doubt but it is pricey for what you get. The kit is smaller than a shoebox and it is over $200. I realize that you are mainly buying their research and marketing and about four dollars of steel.

I agree about any extra power and live at 6200 feet. I am going to give true duals a try and add the Big City Thunder baffles at the end of the head pipe where the muffler attaches. I have also modified the baffles in the thunder header slip ons, they are know for a flat spot in the torque curve.
Curious on the topic, will a newer Twinkie headpipe fit our old baggers?? Seems like they are available and run the left side under the bike. This has got to flow better than making the 90* turn after leaving the head..
