Another Newbie question here...Is there any benefit to using HD lubricants? I'm reading through the service manual and it's just listing the part numbers for the various oils. From what I can tell, it's not even telling me what weight oils to get.
I know the engine oil should be 20W50. What about the transmission and the primary? What weight oils do I need for them and is there anything I should stay away from...or can I use pretty much anything.?.? All of my fluids need to be changed soon but I doubt it's going to happen this month and my transmission fluid is low. I have to add something to it quickly. I live out in the middle of nowhere so it would be nice to know if I could pick up something locally.
I don't know if it makes any difference but this bike has an Ultra 6 speed transmission.
HI There
"CLEAN" 20w50 motor oil , 75-90 or better Gear oil in the tranny . I use 20w50 synthetic amsoil in the motor and in the primary , plus 75 -140 synthetic amsoil gear lube in the tranny . I found the motor runs about 10 degrees cooler . That sold me . Use anything you think is right . Just change the oil often . Kopper
