I can understand that jetting might have to be adjusted to suit your particular motor, and state of tune, but you're right. You would think they would have checked the float height as part of the final setup.

I DID check mine before installing it. I would do that with ANY carb I am installing, just to assure myself that it's correct.

You can get little metric allens to replace the bowl screws. Just be careful, they make the originals soft so that they will fail before the carb body !!

That sounds like a good idea. One of the screws was getting a little buggered up during the removal process, and allens would be much easier to work with. Those are on the list for next winters rebuild.

You aren't kidding on the "soft" part. The first time I tried to remove them the heads stripped out on all four of them. I had to use a needle file to cut slots so I could remove them with a flat blade screwdriver. I replaced them with metric Allen screws and have had no trouble since. The trick is to use the long end of the wrench on the screw, and turn with the short end. That way, you don't overtighten them. They only need to be a bit past "snug".

Also, an Allen wrench is much easier to maneuver in the tight space between the cylinders than a screwdriver, making removing the float bowl with the carb in place a snap. On my bike, I don't even need to remove the air cleaner.
