i have a 1946 Indain Chief in the shop under resto and so far PARTS has come to $26,000 - not including Re cad plating < it has to aircraft type for the color yea aircraft spec cad plating well they give that away - soda blasting and painting small parts and frame forks ect - the small amount that it has re chromed - than comes the paint and the shops painter is under the idea he is the next Michael Angelo -- then shop labor rate we started it last august - all not in the 26,000 BUT - yes a BUT -- the first 500 bikes that were built after WW2 late 45 / 46 were all painted black and had 18inch Military black wheels - the only ones ever to have 18 inch wheels on a plunger frame Indian Chief - i could go on for a 1/2 hour about this special production bike but you get the idea its all in what the customer thinks he wants and needs in a machine and how and much ZOOM he wants to spend
My Indy has an Indian, pre-war, that has a serial number on the magneto... must be tough tracking down matching number parts.

some stuff is one and 2 years only with low production numbers - Indian also suffered from what the company did, or dident do. and the right thing by the workers in the end they the workers chucked all the records out so almost nothing survived -

do a resto on one -- it makes an original speedo 1000 / 1500 bucks - fenders 1000 each - horn 800 - gas tanks 1500 - ignition switch 300 - generator even a regulator big bucks 3 to 5 hundred each - carb 1000 / 1500 -- it is a nice bike tricky to drive original Indian delivered, has the throttle is on the left the spark advancer is on the right , it shifts from the right and the foot clutch is heel to go harley is toe to go -- you gotta pay attention

Better you than me, your money not mine.

Where is your shop? N.Y. or NJ?

I had a couple of wartime Indian twins for a while, ex-Military. Tons of stuff got left over here when you chaps went home, much of it buried in huge pits - so the rumours go. Parts were impossible then (pre-internet!) so I moved them both on.

John, do you think the Hebron swapper is as good as the Stafford Springs swap meets? I would like to attend, not that big of a drive, maybe 90 minutes.
