Why Evo?
The way it sounds, feels, and smells. I can work on it and enjoy the therapy. If it does leak I can fix it. I do not have to talk about my bike payment. I can rebuild it as many times as required, new bike all over again. Nothing against a twin cam, just not my style.
Great response...agree completely. My Pans and Shovel are my favorites, but the Evo design is bulletproof and definitely built for the home mechanic.
With respect to my Favorite engine, the Panhead, the shovelhead sounds the best. I was on rte 1 south going into boston and I was behind a '77 FLH, that's what his plate/tag said anyway and it was music to my ears. We were doing 60ish and it was sweet sounding. I stayed behind him for a mile or so then he exited, my loss...
An Evo with 2014 stock mufflers would sound equally gay...stage 1 or 2 a TC and you still have uneven firing impulses, the actual timing of the bangs is identical on both motors....only 2 things make the great unwashed make this "sounds like a Japper" claim and they are
1: EFI.....it gives a much higher idle and H-D have to do some weird **** with the exhaust system balance that adds to the problem.
2: The mufflers, they are made to be so quiet by the EPA that it don't sound Harley anymore.
The truth of the matter is, if there was no TC the only bike H-D would be producing would be the V-Rod because the Evo is in fact a Dinosaur, it cannot be made to meet the EPA regs and so it died out.
I have had both and wouldn't go back, just my opinion, I like TC's but prefer them carbed.
Let's all just get along shall we? Except for TD, he will always be at the butt end of it all...
I wish I still had a recording of a 2008 TC on Vance and Hines Short Shots.....you would never have said it sounded gay....damn thing sounded like it would rip your throat out if you did.
I honestly don't have anything against the early TCs when they were still made really well like the evo's... I just don't like the riders usually (like OP). If I had the cash and a nice early, carbed TC would come my way I'd probably buy it... not a softail though.
