My bike starts and runs fine until I turn it off. If it doesn't sit at least 5-10 minytes before I start it again it will backfire and blow the carb off. Once I put the carb back on it runs fine again.
what kind of breather do you have? or are your brackets broken that old the backplate on? either way the backplate should be bolted to the motor which will in turn hold your carburetor in place.
I've had my carb blow out even with a good backplate and bolts. Not often, maybe 3 times in 8 years and then the one a couple months ago and the plastic around one of the backplate bolts broke and it fell out. Every time it backfires would point there.
I had that problem once on my dresser, I replaced the intake manifold seals part # 26995-86A, something else is going on also, I would check the timing.

If the backing plate is messed up enough to allow the carb to blow off, the seal between the carb and the intake can't be very good. Could be the backfire problem right there. I'd secure the carb first.
