My '94 Wide glide has always had switch issues, not sure why, maybe because my dad was **** about washing it. While it still looks new today because of it, the starter switch hasn't worked in 6yrs... I had even upgraded to the '96 style switches shortly before they failed..... Anyhow, I look at it as a anti theft device, of sorts.. It will only start from the little manual starter button.. I have one on my Ultra as well, will always have one on my bikes.. When you install it, take the plunger out and scuff the brass contacts, add some dielectric grease.. You wont regret it, one of the best accessories you can add for piece of mind..

That article is BS
Actually, parts of that article are b/s but the premis is not. WD-40 is the bane of the electronics and small machine industries... It does effect some plastics but what is worse, when the solvents evaporate it leaves behind a sticky film which attracks dirt. That film will over time, harden, making it extremely difficult to remove. Motors and devices with bronze bushings for bearings suffer, I replaced thousands of small motors that were commonly hosed down with the stuff to reduce noise and they ended up not working at all.

Believe what you want..

If you want a really good substitute, try this stuff.

WD 40 is fine for almost all applications including plastic parts .
The product is defined as ., WD = water displacement , 40= 1940 the year it was developed and used in all the manufacturing processes that built our way to victory in World War 2.
The grey area now is that the company has tweeked the formule to be able to advertise that it is a basic do all compilation including the market for penetrating oil which it was not originally desighned for etc.
Its great stuff and use it to clean out switches as advised , it will leave a "slight" lubrication on the contacts that should be there anyway.
Sorry Doug but we disagree here.

Unless the problem is that the solenoid contacts are shot.

Put in a new HD relay and had no more problems. I also put Dielectric grease on all my relays and connectors. Looked at solenoid and all looked good.
Ill put in the solenoid button soon for em back up. Thanks for all the help.
