Default Turn signal glitch

Ok, found a glitch on my new 1990 FXRS: The turn signals don't stay on.

Press the button, and they flash just fine as long as you hold it down. Release the button, they stop.

Of course, I left my manual with wiring diagrams at the shop.

Any recommendations for a simple fix? Or am I going to have to scrounge around the bike looking for a buggered wire somewhere?

Find your manual ! Suck it up or have a dealer rape you for all your worth ! Then clean every wiring connector you can find as per. this thread page .
Then look for the ground block at the left fork tube area . Clean it too.
She is 24 years old and the wiring is same ?

I know some early models came that way.
You may need a turn signals module from bad lands to fix your issue.

I know some others here did that to fix their issues and maybe one of them will chime in and let you know what you need to check.

Sorry I couldn't be of more help.

That's how it was built. You could add a Badlands turn signal module if you prefer. It will keep them on for 8 seconds. If you're at a 90 second light, you'll be hittin the signal several times.

No kidding? I would never have guessed that. The HD's I've ridden in the past all had some magic self-canceling stuff going on. Thought that was pretty cool. Bummin' that mine isn't like that.

And it makes me wonder about the purpose of the "turn signal" indicator light. If they only stay on when the button is down, seems pointless.

I've been riding Suzuki's forever and its taking some getting used to having signal controls on both sides.

The Badlands isn't too hard to wire up. You'll have to remove the tanks to get at the wiring harness and strap down the Badlands module but it isn't hard. I don't what year they started with the self-cancelling signals. My '05 EG was the 1st Harley I had with them...

Signal Dynamics solved that problem on theirs:

• Features three turn signal timing modes: a one-second press of the turn signal button causes seven seconds of turn signal flash before self-cancel, a two-second press causes 20 seconds of flash before self-cancel and a four-second press causes 75 seconds of flash before self-cancel

My 2001 FXDXT had the self cancelling turn signals. They are now a thing of the past when the turn signal/security module called it a day, and I discovered the cost to replace it.

First re-wired and just installed a $4 blinker, was able to tie everything in under the seat, all wires for the turn signal start and merge under the seat. Of course had to hold the signal switch for them to stay on "blink".

Then went to the after market turn signals and also found them to lack sufficient "blink" time, but still have them connected and just keep hitting them to stay on long enough.

My cheap Yamaha Zuma 125 scooter has a better directional system then either of the HD's ever had.

I always thought the self cancelling stuff HD did was pretty cool. Liked that.

Like I said, I've put a bunch of miles on Suzukis, and have pretty much baked the habit of turning off signals into my soul.

Maybe its just familiarity. Old habits are hard to break.

So, how do you ride with these "only on when you are pushing the button" signals? Do you just hold it down for a few seconds and figure you've made your point, or do you try to do some manual gymnastics to hold them down as you brake/clutch/throttle your way through a turn?
