Default Rear wheel alignment..

Hi,

Just changed my tires, went a little larger Metz 140/90-16 and 120/70-21, they fit fine, the rear is close to the belt. I used the coat hanger to swingarm bolt trick to align the rear, belt tracks ok-like it always does.

Question is, how hot does everyones rear tire get, I'd like to hear how hot the ambient temp is and how hot to the touch the tire is if posible... Took mine out last night for a test ride and I ride hard but 20 miles later the little **** were all worn off the rear and it was pretty warm to the touch, not hot but warm enough to get my attention... the front was cool...

Is that the way it is, I never really noticed befor but this is my 2nd set of Metzlers and I only got maybe 7K out of the rear... might be closer to 6 and I always got 8-10 with dunlops

Thanks,
Doug

Which Metzler did you go with? I've run Mezlaser's, now Lazertec or something, and they really, really grip, but don't last that long, like ~6-7K for the back on my bike. The Dunlops are going to last longer. That's their selling point.

Hi Doc,

I'm running the 880's and they really do grip, put the Dunlops to shame, especially in water, road snakes etc... But tread life stinks... a rear tire every year...LOL

How hot are yours after a decent ride, really currious about that...

Anyone else?

I never bothered to check them. Car tires can be well over 140F, depending on lots of things. I wouldn't worry about it.

I have a ME88 on the front right now and a Dunlop D402 on the rear.

wow, baggers must be hard on tires, got over 15k rear, over half left on front, me880. Just put a me888 on the rear, me880 cords were showing. 90 fxrs-sp. I don't do burnouts.

Driving habits have a lot to do with it. We had one guy in our riding group that routinely got 15K out of his, but he babied his ride. The heat thing makes me a bit curious as well. I must say that I have never made a habit of feeling how hot my rear tire was...maybe I'll do that and see. If it's a little misaligned...that should not matter too much. The tires will "find" themselves. I think as long as the belt stays on the pulley's, that is not a serious problem. The only thing I can attribute to a warm rear tire is....it's the driver and it's going to get warmer from grabbing the road under load. The front is just the follower....even though it's in the front. It's just coasting.

My Metz and Night Dragons all heat up nicely....They are warm to touch after a ride whcih is how they are supposed to be! If they are ice cold then they have no gripping power at all.

That doesn't sound like much mileage outta Metzlers. Some I know running Metzlers get at least 10-12 and most more.

Did notice a rear tire a bit on the warm side cking the air after a hard ride, did surprise me how warm it was.

Course loads and low air pressure will really heat a tire up and wear them out.

I checked my log, 6400 miles, and it was bald as a babys butt...The Dunllop befor it got almost 9K and I changed it because I needed a front and wanted to switch to the metz..
Had to take it off today to add a spacer to the pully so I very carefully aligned it and gonna take a test ride iin a few. I keep the rear @35psi, no burn outs but I ride fairlly hard and use the back brake alot if that matters, naturally I dont skid it. I'm still surprised at how warm iit gets but it does sticck to the road like glue..

Anyone else on here running these 880's, what are your results??
