Default 1989 FLH Rear Tire Recommendations

Newbie. Did a search and learned a lot. Have Dunlop D402 on front and rear now. Rear needs replaced. Performance doesn't matter - just looking for cheapest safe solution that looks OK on my bike.

Questions please:
1. Don't really need same brand on front and rear, right ?
2. Good places to buy ? jakewilson.com has Dunlop for $160
3. Anybody run Shinko tire ? Looks like 1/2 the price, link below.

Appreciate any thoughts. Thanks !

Put another Dunlop on the rear. When that one wears out it'll be time to get a new pair, and you can decided what flavor you want for the both.

I'm in the same boat, except I put a Michelin Commander II on the rear the last time, still have a Dunlop 402 on the front. The Michelin wore out fast, I don't know what I'm going to get this time, but it will be around $100, so it won't be a Dunlop 402, I'm not paying another $50 for Harley Davidson on my rear tire. I've mixed them up more than once with no problem. But I don't ride much anymore, or hard, just putt around town.

With tires you get what you pay for............... If you have a garage queen, go ahead and get the Shinko.

My buddy lost his job and rides the heck out of his bike. We were down at bike week and he was showing fabric on the center of his rear tire. He bought a Shinko and has ridden it pretty much every day since spring bike week at Myrtle Beach. He loves it and says from here on out that's all he's going to buy (he has a job now). I think he paid $70.00 dollars for the tire brand new, not including the cost of mounting which was like, $30.00 bucks.

1. Your buddy lost his job.
2. He rides his tires down to the cord.
3. He buys a Shinko.

Got yourself a real role model there.

Well, from what I've been hearing is, you have to spend twice that on a name brand tire to be safe. I have not heard of a bike going down do to tire failure in a long time. I'll be getting a non brand name tire also.
