Default Switching motors/transmissions

Right now I don't need any of this but, I'm curious. When I look at used motors/primary/transmission sets on fleabay (out of boredom) I see that there is a ton of softail setups and no FLH setups. In a pinch, Could I bolt a motor/primary/transmission from a softail into the frame on my 1988 FLHTC?

What about a newer EVO setup in an older EVO frame?

I have noticed that the transmission for my year model is pretty hard to find. Softail stuff is common and easy to find. I think that the only tranny that will fit my bike is a 1987 - 1988. But, I can buy the gears or rebuild kits all day. The case is what's harder to find. Not that it's a big deal.

Your bike has the side cover oil tank correct? If so you could update to a later FXR case for the "better" starting system. You could also use the later FL case with the bottom oil pan, but you may have to move the rear xmember to make room for the pan. I've done a couple FXR's this way.
